Todd- this may seem to be an odd question, but here I go. About 6 months ago I suffered a tear in my radial collateral ligament of my left/lead hand. This is a fairly rare injury and I have seen 3 orthopoedic specialists who have basically said the same thing: "Surgery is an option but full stability is doubtful." In other words I could go through an extensive surgery with no assurance that the problem will be solved/fixed. I think this has been an ongoing problem because about 1- 1 1/2 years ago I started playing golf by taking my left hand grip without my thumb on the grip. I understand this is not ideal for my golf game, but that being said I am an 8 hdcp who generally plays well. My question is if you have any feedback as to how I may consistently take my left hand grip without placing my lead thumb on the grip/shaft? When I go bad it seems to be that I lose the feeling of how to grip the club well. The injury does not hurt in regular life, only when the hinging occurs in the backswing, thus taking the thumb off the grip. Thanks for your time, patience, and any feedback you may have.
Well. THe lead thumb is important as far as the model is concerned however, the goal is great club movement which you can still achieve without the thumb on the club. I have a question...can you take the thumb off and place it over the right wrist when you take you grip?
