That's why they make all those putts!
I have played the morning after an LPGA event. It started raining as the last group and leaders played 18 on Sunday and it kept on raining until about five minutes before we teed off for this charity event Monday. The good news was the rims were painted white. The bad news was we had the same pin positions that they played on Sunday. But, the greens would be wet, slower, and un-mowed. Should have been easy. On TV Sunday, the ladies looked like good putters but nothing that made me think, "Wow!". When we tried to play those pins, I acquired a new level of respect. Some of the pins were so hard and I never noticed it while watching TV. That Sunday, Anika had a short putt to birdie 18 and win the event. Seemed like a near gimme (maybe 24 inches or so). As a matter of fact when she hit her shot to get to that gimme range, the announcers called the tournament for her even as the heavens opened up and the rain poured. No one wanted a playoff in those conditions. We all saw it on TV so, when we got to the 18th green, we placed our balls where hers had been and hit the putt. Four guys, and four misses. Big misses. Tons of break and lightning fast. Even after seeing three putts the fourth guy was not close. So, I do not recall the painted holes helping with anything except seeing the hole from farther away. I do recall learning that day that those ladies can roll their rocks.
Anyone else play with fancy painted holes and find a difference?
