I just wanted to send a quick thanks out to forum members and/or moderators who posted earlier tips on the left-hand grip, which I used to 'debug' a swing problem I have been battling recently.

Specifically, your recommendation of placing the grip across the base of the fingers (instead of diagonally across/under the heel pad) has helped me square the club better at impact than my 'old' NG grip, which - - - for some reason - - - encouraged a tendency to rotate the left wrist clockwise away from the target during the takeaway.

Although I was able to 'save' some iron shots (particularly wedges) with my hands, the old grip promoted an open clubface and pushes/blocks, particularly with the woods. With the new grip I don't have to worry about manipulating the club back to square anymore.

Haven't had the new grip out on the course yet, but the results on the practice range are encouraging. It has really freed up my release, and shot dispersion with all clubs (especially the driver) is much tighter.

It's good to feel solid contact again. Best of all, a more stable left hand has gotten me back on the path of automatic golf and away from reliance upon timing (of which I have very little).

Appreciate your helpful post(s)!

Lokey,

It funny how sometimes the smallest thing helps out. I have been playing NG for a full five years and still seem to unintentionally stray from the basics on occassion. Its hard with no one in this area who plays single axis golf. Sometimes it helps to have someone qualified to look at your swing. This board has been a great help.

What you mentioned you were doing with the grip is the same problem I keep running into causing me to hook terribly. I took your advice putting the lead hand grip at the base of the fingers tonight while playing. I hit everything dead straight. I even eagled a par 5. Finished with a 79 on a par 72 course!

Thanks for the tip.
