"Little Moe" Signature School September 2008 Instructional Newsletter Update Issue #81A Hello Everyone,
Sitting here watching the Ryder Cup - does it get any better than this?? Hopefully the US can pull it out this year... Also interesting as to how many good golfer's fundamentals are starting to resemble Moe's. Kenny Perry facing ball at impact, Miguel Jimenez single axis set up and facing ball at impact, and others. Whether these players understand Moe's fundamentals or not, they are understanding the ease and consistency of hitting the golf ball using some of the single axis fundamentals. With these being said, and the fact that many like to see comparisons between touring pros and Moe's swing, Todd has started the Moe's vs. Pro's section of our new website www.knowmoe.com. It is where you can see popular touring pros swings compared to Moe by Todd. Very interesting, informative and a lot of fun to see how close some professionals are to Moe's fundamentals. Spreading the word contest - Revived! We had such a good "turn out" last time we ran this contest, we wanted to run again. FYI - when you forward the etip, we have no idea who you forward it too.... only that you forwarded the etip. The only way the recipient can receive our etips in the future is if he/she signs up for our newsletters. Thank you for your help in spreading the word about Moe Norman's simple and effective swing and good luck! The 4th Annual Moe Norman Memorial is NEXT WEEK!! Next week is our annual Moe Norman Memorial. The time the GGA and participants spend the weekend honoring the person we believe had the "swing of a lifetime" and time we spend having a lot of fun with fellow single axis golfers. For all those attending - SAFE TRAVELS and we'll see you next week. For anyone else thinking about attending, it's not too late....
When: September 27th & 28th, 2008 Where: Eagle Creek Golf Club - Orlando, FL - GGA's Orlando home Who: YOU!! Cost: $459
It's hard to believe it's been 4 years since we said goodbye to Moe. And we are proud and honored to host the Moe Norman Memorial Outing in his honor. Now only 2 months away, the 4th Annual Moe Norman Memorial will continue the tradition of gathering to honor the legend, and the man who has allowed us all to become better ball strikers.
Whether this is your first time, or if you've been every year, don't wait to reserve your space. This event has become a great reunion each year of Moe Norman fans. Many friendship's have been forged at the "Moe", and we expect this year's event will be no different.
Now to the golf itself. We get many people each year who say they don't want to play because they feel like they aren't "good enough". Friends, this simply isn't the case. This outing is PRIMARILY about meeting fellow Moe golfers, making lasting friendships, and experiencing Moe Norman's legacy. We (GGA) look at it the Moe Memorial is more of an outing/gathering rather than a competitive tournament. This event each year only expands Moe's legacy, and you should be part of it.
Both days are a scramble type format - one day a "scramble" and the other a "scramble". You play on a team with other Moe single axis golfers - format is set up to have a lot of fun and meet other Moe single axis golfers. We have putting, most accurate drive, closest to the pin, and many other contests during the events. Again, all are set up to enhance everyone's enjoyment, but more importantly, to honor Moe and his legacy. Following/preceding play each day, we will have lunch and hold ball striking and short game clinics for all participants.
To register for the memorial, simply visit our Moe Memorial Page on our website. If you have further questions, please email Scott Renfrow at scottr@swinglikemoe.com.
We look forward to seeing you at the 'Moe'!

California - LAST change to See GGA... For all those in and around the San Diego (CA) area and interested in attending a GGA school, our upcoming schools in October (October 20th - 27th) will be the last for at least a few years in CA. In October (October 20th - 24th & 25th - 27th) we be making our annual West Coast trip. We will be in San Diego at Barona Golf Course for our annual west coast camp and school. We have 2 spots open in the camp and a couple in the 3 day school. Anyone interested - don't miss your chance to see us - the only time we get to the west coast each year. The GGA has planned to schedule other sites for the next couple of years and will not be back to California (at least scheduled as of today). So, if you were considering attending one of our schools and want the convenience of a CA school - now is the time.
For more information give us a call or email anytime - we discuss details and/or answer any questions you might have. GGA Grips are a "HUGE" Hit !!! We are getting great comments from many GGA students who are now using the new GGA grips. Just think, now every time you put your hands on your clubs, you can check to see if you are holding the club just like Moe. You can now give yourself the BEST chance to hit a good shot EVERY time. Folks - I (Tim) have them on my clubs, Todd has them on his clubs, I personally believe if you are trying to Swing Like Moe - you are "behind the 8 ball" if you aren't using these grips. Yes, you can swing like Moe without them - of course, but Todd has made it a lot easier to swing like Moe consistently time and time and time again. You take the "grip issue" out of the equation - now you can look down and check your hands anytime. We have sold over 5,000 of these grips in less than a month. If you would like to see more about our most recent instructional tool - please go to: http://swinglikemoe.com/index.php?&pr=GGA_Grips P.S. - FYI - Adams Golf (one of the top 3 golf manufacturers) is now putting the GGA grip on any club requested.... folks the grip is that good.... Please let us know if you have any questions or comments about our new grip - we are more than happy to answer any and all....
Practice Tip:
Another Lesson Learned...to Help You
by Tim Graves
These past couple of weeks/month is typically the time of year I (Tim) get out a little and get in a few tournaments. Between all our teaching and "running the business" it seems I get less and less time each year to get the rust of the clubs and put a little pressure on the game. But, as August and September are typically a little slower for the GGA, it gives me some time to get out and see where the game is.... Anyway - wanted to share an experience from the last tournament with you and hopefully this experience will reinforce your path to improvement and where you want to take your game. First - I have actually played "decent" this year. In the past 2 months, I have played in 4 events, placed 1st in one, 2nd in one and top 5 in the other two. This past week was the latest, the Oklahoma Open in which I typically get paired with past and "future" touring professionals. This year was no different. The last day of the event was one of those days to be honest, you look outside and say "I'm glad we're not playing today" - except we were. It was a rainy, cold and VERY windy day in Oklahoma. Reason - Hurricane Ike has just passed by to the east of us and we were in between a cold front and Ike's "back side" - making for a day no one wants to be on the golf course. But, as it was the last round of our state's major... no choice. I went into the last round in 12th place (of 144 players) - had played a decent first round (2 under) and got caught in Ike's rain the 2nd day (shot 3 over). Issue with 3rd day, was it raining (a little), but the wind was blowing out of the north with gusts up to 35 / 40 mph. I knew heading to the first tee, it was going to be a "grind" that day and any "wayward" shot was going to be magnified... That day, I played with a professional from Arkansas and a "young gun" new professional from Kansas. In fact, this Kansas professional (attending PGA tour school this week) had won the Kansas State Amateur Match and Stroke play last year along with the Kansas Publinks. Needless to say, a good player. We hit off the first tee and the first thing I noticed was how long the Kansas professional was. In fact, I felt short compared to him (and I don't consider myself short off the tee). To tell you how long he was... on the 4th hole, a 545 yard (downwind) par 5 over a creek, I hit Driver/ 2 hybrid to the front edge of the green, he hit Driver / 8 iron pin high.... yes, 8 iron. He is "ridiculously" long. I have played with Tiger Woods and many other touring professionals, this gentleman is longer off the tee.... The round progressed... we were all playing okay, but I kept thinking to myself, this round will ultimately come down to the golfer(s) who know and can "control" their game. Couple of reasons... 1. Because as the round progresses, nerves will still be there and missed shots will happen.... 2. You can get away with a missed shot or two in good conditions, but not in medium or bad conditions and these were definitely bad conditions....3. The course we were playing was a Pete Dye designed course - with 'premium" holes toward the end - 1/2 to 3/4 island greens, etc... missed shots would cost more than one. We all played the front nine okay. I was even as was the Kansas professional and the Arkansas pro was 2 over. Not bad for the conditions. As we made the turn, the course starts to show "her" teeth and the wind was actually picking up a bit. I chipped in on 10 to go 1 under and the Kansas pro 2 putted for par. We both pared 11 and 12 and then stepped on to #13. #13 is a crosswind 390 yard par 4 with water down the left hand side of the fairway - from tee to green. OB is very tight left. Great hole. I hit a low, weak cut driver to hold the wind on the left side of the fairway. To be honest, probably a 250 yard drive, but accuracy was the premium. The Kansas pro hit his normal "booming" drive - tried to play the wind, but the ball held right and ended in the water - outcome double bogey. #14 - A 235 yard par 3 into the wind. All carry over water with Pete Dye railroad ties in the front of the green. As I stood on the tee I realized the chances of hitting a wood close to the pin was very little, in fact, hitting a wood and holding the green was a very low probability. If you miss right or hit past, it is a sure double at best... So, I hit a 2 hybrid about 50 feet to the left of the pin and "skipped" the ball through the green into a greenside grass bunker. I had been there a 100 times before and knew with that pin wasn't a hard up and down. The Kansas pro pulled out a 3 iron, tried to hit a high cut to hold the wind - outcome - water. I got up and down (made a 3) and the Kansas pro (a triple - 6). Needless to say, the Kansas pros game had come apart. On two holes he had gone from even par to 5 over and it wasn't getting any easier. Not to beat the point to death - the finishing holes were played 5 over by the Kansas pro and I played them one over. Not because of better shots by me, but rather "smarter" shots by me. I'll give you a last example. As I was standing on #17 tee (a 220 yard downwind par 3 - 190 to carry over water and 30 yards of green back to the hole - green is 3/4 island green), Todd was with me and watched my shot. I hit a "punch" 4 iron that landed about 200 yards and skipped to 10 feet behind the hole. The Kansas pro hit a 6 iron that caught the wind and flew into the water left. It wasn't a bad shot until it got up into the wind... no chance. I ended up making 3, he made a 6. Todd commented - "You have to know your game and ball flight to play golf, especially on a day like today".... never more obvious then on those shots... a low punch type shot was much better than a high "floating" shot with the wind. So, what can you take from this story (long story). This is another point of knowing your game, but more importantly knowing your strengths and weaknesses. When is the last time you "laid up" or intentionally didn't go at a pin on a par 3? When was the last time you "punched" a driver to keep it "under the wind"? When was the last time you stood on the tee, watched your playing partners hit a shot and told yourself "I'll be smart and play the hole my way.." You need to understand your strengths and limitations. Yes, definitely work on your limitations, in fact, make it a goal to not have as many "limitations" next year.... But, if you are going to play now, this is how you "outsmart" the golf course. Know what you can do and can't do and play smart. Finally, how do you start to continue with limiting those limitations. You need to STUDY... sounds like school right... but it's a fact - you need to study the swing/short game/course management, etc.. and determine where you can improve. It is not hard, in fact, it can be a lot of fun. You can ask the 1,000s of GGA students who are studying now... they continually assess/reassess, check and recheck their games. They fix their weaknesses and thus eliminate or lessen their limitations. Ultimately, they are dramatically improving their game. So, where do you start - You MUST get our basic instruction - our Total Game Overview - what the Moe Norman Swing is all about - this is the starting point. You can see a lot more about our core instruction at: http://swinglikemoe.com/index.php?&pr=TGOV_Videos This is where you will very quickly be able to determine your strengths and weaknesses and will show you how to work on those weaknesses. (P.S. - Many of you might be saying to yourself, "I already have other single axis instructional material - that is good enough" - It is NOT... our material was produced to teach Moe's Single Axis swing and only Moe's swing and to help all those interested in swinging like Moe - to limit confusion and to teach Moe's swing in it's simplicity and EXACTLY as Moe taught us). To see our Path to Great Golf that 1,000s are following (yes thousands...) please go to: http://swinglikemoe.com/index.php?&pr=The_Path_To_Great_Golf&=SID Folks - this path REALLY works - just ask the 1,000s of GGA followers who have significantly improved their golf games. Go to www.moenormanforum and talk to them yourself!!! Hopefully this story will get everyone to start thinking about their game(s) again - don't let your limitations hurt your game, rather play "around" them. And as you work on your game, know your limitations and weaknesses and set goals to eliminate the limitations and get rid of your weaknesses. Please let us know if you have any questions / comments. Please feel free to call or email anytime. Remember - Always Practice with a Purpose!! GGA Event Schedule
Please don't hesitate to give us a call or email if interested in attending any of these events... all schools/camps have sold out so far this year, not so great for those who wait until the last minute to sign up.
