"Little Moe" Signature School January 2008 Etip Newsletter Issue #73 In This Issue Upcoming GGA Contest Moe Movie Update Upcoming GGA Events Winter Stretching Practice Tip - What Makes a Good Teacher? Moeism PGA Show GGA Event Schedule GGA Club Specials GGA Instructional Materials Greetings and Happy New Year!,
From all of us at the Graves Golf Academy, we hope your and yours had a wonderful and memorable Christmas and a safe New Year!
As this is a new year, the question we have for you is simple;
Are you ready to have your best year of golf ever?
We believe there is no reason why 2008 can't be the be your best year of golf ever. It's as simple as getting on, or staying on, the right path. Moe's path.
It is our resolution for the new year to continue to guide you to your true golf potential with Moe Norman's golf swing. Upcoming GGA contest - Win big! We have an exciting new contest in the works. Prizes will include a 5 day Build Your Game Camp and other GGA merchandise!
If you've been with us for a while, you know that we are always looking for ways to "Spread the Word" about Moe Norman and his golf swing, which has given all of us hope for better golf. Many of you have in fact offered your assistance in helping spread the word, and do so every chance you get.
Along that line of thought, the contest, which will be coming soon, will ask a simple question of you, and require a simply response.
The question: Do you believe Moe Norman's golf swing is the Swing of the Future?
The response: Forward an upcoming Special Edition of the E-Tip Newsletter to all your golf friends, along with a personal note.
That's it. And the beauty of this contest is it can all be done right from the Special Edition email, and will be tracked by GGA. The people who forward the Special Edition email to the most golfers will receive the prizes!
Watch for full details to come soon, and thank you for your support of the legacy of Moe Norman and the Graves Golf Academy.
Scott Renfrow Director of Customer Relations, GGA scottr@swinglikemoe.com
Moe Movie Update Golf World Magazine end of December 2007 issue had an article on the upcoming Moe movie. According to the article, everything is on schedule to begin shooting the movie early this spring, except the writer's strike may hold up the production and shooting schedule.
We have been talking to Barry Marrow (movie producer) and he is hopeful everything will be on schedule for the spring, we will keep everyone updated as we get additional information. Upcoming GGA Events - by Scott Renfrow A quick FYI in regards to our upcoming events;
As we have mentioned previously, NG will now have the ability to register their customers for a Graves Golf Academy school. With the increased number of people vying for a limited number of spaces, we fully expect our schools to fill up VERY quickly this year.
I know that Tim is always telling everyone not to hesitate when looking at attending a school, however, I wanted to take a few minutes as the person who actually controls the school schedule and registrations to let you know this:
For our Spring schedule in Orlando, we have a total of 112 spaces available in all schools. At the time of this writing, we have only 19 spaces remaining of ANY kind, in any school.
Friends, if you are even considering attending a school, please don't wait. It seems I get calls and emails weekly from golfers who are disappointed because the school they wanted to attend has been sold out and we can't get them in.
For all those who've attended schools, and are registered to attend a school this year, we want to thank you for helping make our schools very special events.
Winter Stretching - by Dave Predzin, PGA(a) We are sure everyone enjoyed Dave's first winter stretching article in our last etip (Hamstring Stretch). For more information about Dave, see his bio on our website. Here is the 2nd installment in Dave's Winter Stretching tips.
Back and Glute Stretch
This combination stretch can be done prior to or just after the hamstring stretch we covered in the previous newsletter. The starting position is lying on your back with your knees bent, feet flat on the floor. If your neck feels strained use a pillow or place your hands behind your head.
Cross your feet at the ankles and raise your knees towards your chest. If possible reach up and grab just below the knees and gently pull in towards your chest. Hold the stretch for 10 breaths (inhale slowly to a count of four, hold for one second, and exhale slowly to a count of four). Lower your feet to the ground and uncross your ankles when finished.
The second part of this stretch begins with crossing your right ankle over your bent left knee. If possible extend both arms straight out from your shoulders, 90 degrees from your torso. Make sure your left foot has not slid away from your buttocks. If you need an added stretch push your right knee towards the floor until you feel the stretch in your right buttocks. Hold the stretch for 10 slow breaths. Switch legs and repeat.
Good Luck, Watch upcoming etips for more stretching articles.
Dave Practice Tip - What Makes a Good Teacher? by Tim Graves, PGA Have you tried to teach yourself? Have you tried to teach someone else golf - like your child, your wife, your husband? Have you ever taken a lesson from a professional? Have you ever attended a golf clinic / school / camp?
Golf Teacher's Motto:
"If you're going to teach golf, accept the responsibility of having an impact on people's lives and work every day to be help your student obtain their goals."
This past week, I was honored to receive a nomination for the 2007 PGA SCS Teacher of the Year.
Part of the selection process includes answering questions about my teaching philosophy, discussing what I have done in the past year and finally, what I consider a good teacher. I also read a great article by C. King in my last issue of PGA Magazine that got me thinking....
What Makes a Good Teacher?
Whether teaching yourself, working with others, or being the student, what should you look for in a good teacher?
What does the Graves Golf Academy strive to attain with every one of our students?
Here is my "Top Ten" points I think everyone should look for in a good teacher.
1. There is a program for improvement, not just a single lesson. A single lesson is like putting a "bandage" on the swing/golf issue. It doesn't "cure" the problem, only covers it up until it "falls off".
2. Goals for improvement should be discussed along with a "realistic" time frame. Nothing in golf is an "overnight" fix - NOTHING!
3. There should be an equal emphasis on short game and long game. Never forget - 60% + of the scoring occurs in the short game.
4. The entire game of golf should be taught - NOT just the golf swing. Meaning, a good instructor will teach short game, long game, course management, mental game, rules of golf, club fitting, etc..
5. Concepts should be explained, demonstrated and shown in an UNDERSTANDABLE manner in "bite-size" pieces.
6. Information "overload" must be avoided.
7. The student should be given drills and or training aids that will turn new concepts into habits.
8. The instructor will use VIDEO ANALYSIS as a feedback tool. Video is the BEST way to bridge the gap between perception and reality and fact and feel.
9. The instructor must understand everyone "learns" a little different, and he/she should be able to teach the student in a way the student "learns" the best.
10. The instructor should have a "passion" for the game of golf and for the student's improvement.
My recommendation for you, whether teaching yourself, working with other's, or taking a lesson, is to follow these 10 points. Use them as a guide, and you can't go wrong.

This is our path to aid you in playing your BEST GOLF EVER!!!!
As always - please, please PRACTICE WITH A PURPOSE.
Good Luck,
Please let us know if we can do anything else for you. Moeisms Moe Norman:
"I want both feet on the ground when I hit the ball. Most guys are way up on their right foot. I want my swing to balance me."
Please feel free to comment on this or email any of your favorite "Moeism's" to us if you'd like to share with others.... PGA Show The GGA Staff will be attending the PGA show next week in Orlando, FL. If you would like us to look at anything for you, get information, etc.. let us know.
