Had a fantastic time and learned a heck of a lot at the Eagle Creek Build Your Camp last week, but almost didn't go. I waffled for a long time about whether or not I should go to a Graves Golf school. I was pretty sure I was figuring out exactly what they were trying to tell me in the videos. Hey, I'm a computer techie, I live for the deepest details. Let me tell you-I was wrong! On some of the swing details, I was close to correct-other details, way off base! My interpretation of what Todd and Tim were trying to get me to understand wasn't it. Although my scoring improved this year as I was moving toward a better swing, there were subtle things I'd missed that were keeping me from actually getting to that swing. Todd, Tim, Dave, Brent, Ben, and Clayton were able to see and correct my faulty swing mechanics and show me the way it is really supposed to work. Now I know how to swing correctly, albeit slow and methodical, to make sure my mechanics are correct. I know how to practice with a purpose; I've got the drills to work on over the winter and when golf season arrives in '08 in Delaware, I'm going to improve even more! I'll post more after I catch up with events in my real world but first, a quick story: Orlando Airport, heading to Gate 92-two and a half hours before the flight and the only thing between me and the gate is, the Outback bar on the left...I needed to show ID to order a Fosters! Show ID at my age(59)? "Required of every patron" said the barkeep. Soon after my Fosters showed up, a group of Senior Gentlemen arrived for their pre-flight drink. They raised a little fuss about the ID rule and said that this wouldn't have happened in Canada. They ordered drinks and began to discuss their soon-to-be over golf vacation. I listened in a bit as they joked about their aches, their sores, their scores, and how they'd each do much better next year. One of their group sitting in the next stool turned to me and asked what I was doing in Orlando. I said I'd been to a week-long golf school. He asked, "Arnold Palmer school?" What's my answer? They probably wouldn't recognize "a Todd Graves school" and I didn't want to say "Natural Golf", they were Canadians, so I said, "Moe Norman". Five heads swiveled as one toward me and the questions started coming. "You've heard of Moe Norman? Is it hard to learn that swing? Is it true that it's easier on my back? Will Moe's swing cure my slice? You've heard, Tiger knows of Moe? Can you really hit it long and straight? Who was your teacher?" I spent the next half hour answering questions and trying to explain why, they too, should take up Moe's swing. The guys even bought me a Fosters as they were heading to their flight home. My bet is you're going to see some web site hits coming from Toronto in the very near future! In conclusion, if you want to game of golf to become easier and more enjoyable, let Todd, Tim, and the guys show you how to swing, in person! Do yourself a favor, attend a Graves Golf school. You'll be glad you did, I sure am!

Thanks Jim -
Really had a good time teaching everyone at that camp. Was one of our bigger camps we have held, worked out great. We actually ran 2 V1 systems (video systems) most of the camp - first time we have done this for multiple days. Worked well. Everyone got to see daily improvement / check changes, etc... even more video time than normal.
Point of note - at that camp we had students ranging from beginners (just starting golf) to alumni who have been with us multiple schools. Great how seems everyone improves over the week - no matter where there game begins...
Thanks again Jim,
Tim Graves, PGA timg@swinglikemoe.com |
