SINCE WE LAST TALKED...

We have been busy, busy, busy... since we last talked we have taught 5 days in Dover, DE, 3 days in East Haddam, CT, 3 days at our academy in Oklahoma City and just finished a 5 day camp also here at our academy. In the past couple of weeks we have seen close to 60 different students and alumni. We had a great time and as always, greatly enjoyed seeing many new students and past alumni.

Interesting reading... if you haven't read "Doc9s" stories about the schools... you are missing some very entertaining reading. If interested, they can be found at:

GGA ALUMNI ADVICE TO ALL FUTURE GGA STUDENTS

Got a great email from one of our students (came to OKC school a two weeks ago):

"A Cardiac Surgeon's Perspective on Graves,Golf and Reality"
By Dr. Rick Bernstein

"Dear Tim and Todd,

Thanks for another superb 3 days of learning and fun at Coffee Creek. To anyone who's interested, I want to emphasize the word "another".
I've known you fellows for a number of years now,and have had multiple lessons from you both-so why do I feel the need to come back for more as often as I'm able?

I suspect there are others like me out there-youth spent in career attainment and not sports(the training of a Cardiothoracic Surgeon takes between 15-18 years after College), who came to learn about and become fascinated with golf later in life-like age 40!! And who have less than G-d given sports natural ability.
So for me at least, I approached golf as something to be learned and then hopefully enjoyed. And as I've watched numerous infomercials and listened to golf commentators ad nauseum I've come to realize that for the athletically challenged like me, learning to be GOOD and CONSISTENT at golf is a lot like a surgical residency.

For example,a second year medical student would not be allowed to be doing open heart surgery-that process takes years of study with a KNOWLEDGEABLE AND EXPERIENCED PROFESSOR(s), and the constant and continuous and arduous repetition of maneuvers until you can do most of them in your sleep-and
then be prepared for lifelong additions and fine tuning as technology advances. This takes a long time and commitment if you have the goal of taking people's lives in your hands for a living.

So with GOOD and CONSISTENT golf-a long-term time commitment under the supervision of HONEST-KNOWLEDGEABLE-EXPERIENCED PROFESSORS is required. This is the advantage of Grave's Golf Academy. Todd similar to the training of a surgeon, studied and sacrificed under professor Moe Norman until he became the World's Authority on Moe's game. Tim has spent his life in similar pursuit in the short game and practicalities of on the course golf.
And we as students have the great fortune of being able to tap into their honest expertise and become whatever golfers our ability will allow us if we also can put in the time correctly.

But this cannot be done as a quick fix or magic pill type scenario just like you wouldn't want that second year medical student to operate on your mother-nor would you bet Michael Jordan a million dollars that you could beat him 1 on 1. Nor should you expect to hit the ball like Tiger or Moe after one lesson or school or e-mail reply. SO yes I just had ANOTHER great experience with Grave's Golf-and will improve without fooling myself that I'll be scratch anytime soon-But happy in knowing that because of Tim and Todd, I have the knowledge and caring Professors to help me along the correct path to improving AND HAVE A LOT OF FUN AS WELL!!!!!

The rest is really mostly up to me more than them-and so I'll be attending another and another Grave's experience to get my own "feeling of greatness"--AND RECOMMEND ANY AND ALL OF THEIR SCHOOLS AND CAMPS without reservation!!

Thanks again boys and keep up your great work on behalf of us eager students."

"SHAW" UPDATE

I'm sure many of you remember me talking about one of my high school students a few months ago - Geoff Shaw (high school sophomore at Edmond North High School). Thought I'd write a quick update to Geoff's golf in the past few weeks....

In the past month Geoff has played and finished in the following:
1. Won his Conference tournament.
2. Finished 3rd in the Section Event.
3. His team won the State 6A Tournament (Geoff finished top 5).

In the past 2 weeks:

1. Geoff came in 2nd at the OSSO AJGA event in Wichita, KS (out of 160 players).

2. Geoff finished 2nd in the National Future Collegiate World Tour in Orlando, FL.
To see more about Geoff and his finish you can go to: http://fcwtgolf.com/
Comments from the article:

"First and second round co-leader Geoffrey Shaw finished in 2nd place. The 16 year old who earned his automatic exemption with his win at TPC Las Colinas, played well in his final round despite the pressure one might feel in this type of situation. He posted a 3 under par 69 which put him at -6 for the event and well ahead of 3rd place. All four of Shaw's finishes this season have been in the Top 10 and with two years of high school remaining - "he'll be back!"

Interesting facts about this 2nd place finish - Sam Saunders - Arnold Palmer's grandson finished first (he is 2 years older than Geoff).

Because of this finish - Geoff is now rated in the top 200 world junior golfers - most are the class of 2006 - Geoff is class of 2008..
His is rated in the top 10 for the class of 2008.

Geoff has been invited to play in the HP Junior Classic at Bay Hill Golf Course (Arnold Palmer's course) in late July. Anyone in Orlando - come out and cheer Geoff to VICTORY!!

FYI - Geoff is 100% single axis.

For all those who are continually asking - When will someone get on tour with Moe's swing??? Give us a little time.... they will be there soon....

Congrats Geoff - KEEP UP THE GREAT GAME!!!
