Grips
I can't find my information about re-gripping with tappered grips. What type of grip to use and how many wraps for the left (upper hand) and right (lower hand). If I start with just one club to try it, any suggestions on which club.
For most with medium large to large hands, a mid size grip with underwrap is recommended. We typically use a golf pride mid size (as it is what most club shops carry) with 4 underwraps under the lower hand and 2 under the upper hand. This leads to a little less tapper in the grip. If you hand is smaller, fewer underwraps, if bigger, more. I recommend to take a middle iron, have a grip put on it that you are considering and "test" is out. You can always regrip the rest of the set the same or keep "experimenting" until you get a grip that feels good.
Is it absolutely necessary to have thicker grips to swing the way Moe does? And what's more important: thicker grips or the correct lie angle? Thanks.
It is not necessary to have large grips. Lie Angle is the most important thing. The next major shift in thinking will be the PROPER grip size for guess what.....Pressure points. I think a grip too large actually hinders the ability to feel the pressure points.
Does the NG swing require certin mech. of the club head & shaft. should the shaft steal be loaded or flexed toward target. Is there an opitum position to strive for @ impact. Thanks for your patcience.
I think by your question, your asking about shaft flex..
The single axis swing does not require special shaft flexes. Shaft flex is determined by the speed of the swing which is determined by how fast you swing your arms in conjunction with the timing and effective "loading" or leverage of the club.
Shaft flex does not produce power in the swing. Proper shaft flex allows for the proper timing of the swing at impact. Many think the shaft flex produces power - not true. Proper shaft flex matche to a particular individual's swing speed allows for the perfect timing of the club at impact which maximizes the speed and power of their swing.
