It is very difficult for Tim and I to recommend instructors mostly because there are very few that have worked with us or who we feel can really provide the information. I am not saying that there are not good intsructors out there but what if they tell you something that I don't agree with and I have recommended them to you?

It has happended before. The quality control issue is a problem we are trying to overcome. My goal is to help people in a very confusing golf world. I also don't want to contribute to the problem.

Todd:

Your 7 DVD set go a long way to documenting what you teach and to provide teaching instructions to other intructors. What else is needed is objective auditing of some of their students. You will learn best what they teach from working with some of their students for a while. The students will show very quickly what they teach when you are not around.

Hoping for success without hard work is like trying to harvest without planting.

Exactly why we currently have a very hard time recommending many other instructors... remember - we have seen well over 1,000 students in the past few years... upwards of 70% have seen instructors prior to seeing us.
There are many ways to judge good/effective instructors - this is possibly one..

Todd,

i appreciate your comments on instructors. I have taken one lesson from a local pro here in Manassas, VA (name witheld at this time) and would like to go for a follow up. I realize this is a sensitive issue and do plan on visiting your school in the future. Any suggestions in the Washington DC Metro area?

Todd, I live in Connecticut and was wondering if you ever have instructions in my area? I have attended 2 3day courses, and a 1 day course in the past with NG. I'm a much improved golfer since before the courses but feel I've reached an impass and have lost confidence in the original NG operation.

If you have any suggestios I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks, Cliff Erler toothdr1@sbcglobal.net 860-482-7241

Tenfingertom,
Sorry to jump in before Todd, but, at the Dover, DE school this past spring, Mick Benson was on hand to give instruction with the Graves boys and Jared. He was top notch all the way. He might not be as close as you'd like, but in my opinion, definitely worth a couple hours drive.

Welcome to the forum doc. I'm sorry I have been away from the computer for such a long time-personal issues. But Yes, TGGS does indeed come to Connecticut. We have been blessed with their instruction 3 straight years now. They come around in about Maytowards memorial day. I also live in CT and have formed a conn/new england school untill the other states in NE can form their own. I'm hopeing to have a get together of all us guys soon. I should've had some by now but like I said there are alot of "issues" I'm dealing with. This is the first time I've been on the computer since 8-4-05. And this has never been the case. But anyway it would be nice to add you to our chapter if you would like. It costs nothing and is just a way to get like minded golfers a chance to get together and play and possibly help each other out. Its much easier playing with folks who swing the same way you do. We also have a Moe Norman Memorial tournament that all of us from aroung the country go to. This tournament is generally in late feb. in florida.
I live in Meriden if you would like to give me your phone and address , put it in a email or private mesage to me through the forum so no one can see it over the net. I would be happy to talk to you about the boys. Last year at one of our chapter outings I brought my video camera and we taped everyones swing and sent it in to Todd and Tim to have evaluated for us at a reduced group rate.
This really worked out well for everyone. I'll try to keep you informed of our next outing as it should be pretty close seeing as how the seasons end is comeing up quick on us. Again welcome to the best instrutors on the planet and hope to see you soom, DAN

Would you recommend a mailed in video lesson or is there an NG teacher near me you would recommend. I know that near me there are three ng teachers, Dave Woods, Jim McNanney and Craig Young(?) Craig is a heavy set fellow who does appear in at least one ng tape.

Bob, if I may interject, I was having the same questions as you were. I could have gone to see Mick Benson, who works with Todd, for a lesson. Instead I chose to mail in the video to Todd. I couldn't be happier. Not olny was it the best lesson I have ever had, I have it to look at whenever I want to. NOT that Mick is not an option, I would go see him if I need to have someone right there, but mailing the video to Todd is a GREAT option.

This is just my opinon, but I would guess that if you ask anyone who has had a video lesson, they would probably tell you the same thing.

Hope this helps.

paulnohio,

Here's the info from the website on the "Path to Great Golf" page:

Mail-In Video Program. This step fits well along any point of your path. The Mail In Video Program allows you to receive the 'hands-on' instruction from the Graves Golf Academy from the convenience of your home.

To participate in the Mail-In Video Program, you video your swing from the "down the target line" & "face on" camera angles with both a 6 iron and Driver. Once you've taped your swings, you mail it to the Graves Golf Academy at:

9100 Lakeaire Dr.

OKC, OK 73132

Each video review costs $50, and once we receive your video, we analyze your swing, record a teaching segment and mail the video back to you with specific areas for your to work on. This program is vital for ensuring that you are continuing down your path.
