GRAVES GOLF ACADEMY TODD GRAVES NATURAL GOLF SIGNATURE SCHOOL MARCH E-TIP NEWSLETTER UPDATE- ISSUE #28A
Hello Again,
Getting in an update before we take off to Florida again. Last time down to Orlando for a few months (next week). We've definitely been lucky with the weather this year in Florida - keeping fingers crossed for next week.
Would like to thank all those who came to our last Build Your Game Camp and our 3 day 1/2 day school last week in Orlando.
* We've finalized some of our upcoming locations in San Antonio, New Jersey and others. Please see our school schedule below for more information.
* We've had some VERY interesting topics the past few weeks on the chatroom (including one that "challenged" us to a CG vs. NG match... we'll see...) If you haven't been to the Moe Norman Swing Forum (Chatroom) at http://www.forumco.com/fuzz2moe/default.asp lately, you've definitely missed some "interesting" topics.
SCOTT'S E-CORNER UPDATE
The drawing for the first 3 day GGA school giveaway was a couple of weeks ago:
Winner: Peter Pappas of Oklahoma City, OK (We had over 1,000 entries, thanks everyone).
Reminder: We are continuing this promotion, with everyone who has entered up to this point, along with future entries, eligible for the next drawing of a free 3 day GGA school, which will be in approx. 3 months.
Also, if you are considering attending a GGA school, MAKE SURE AND SIGN UP EARLY!!! Spaces are filling quickly. We are currently planning trips to Texas and the east coast in the coming months. If you live in these areas, and would like to attend a school, let us know!
If you have any questions about the drawing, schools, or just want to chat, feel free to email me at anytime.
My email is scottr@swinglikemoe.com .

QUESTIONS/COMMENTS FROM LAST ETIP:
"A Matter of Perspective"
This month's etip was about how the club moves on the backswing. The pictures are now available at our website at www.swinglikemoe.com under the etip section - listed March etip. There are 11 pictures that help explain the etip in greater detail.
1. As you see in picture #1 - the line is drawn from the V formed between the thumb and forefinger to the wrist bone.
2. Picture #2 shows the straight line formed from the lead shoulder to the club head. The club head can be placed behind the ball a distance at setup, but this straight line MUST be maintained.
3. Picture #3 shows how the "rod" (lead arm) starts to work in the backswing. As you notice, the lead arm is rotating the the backswing. Notice the position of the club head (angle) and where the line drawn on the hand is pointing.
4. Picture #4 shows how the line draw on the hand continues to point at the lead side during the backswing.
5. Pictures #5 - #7 demonstrates how the club moves straight back and to the inside. The straight line (club held as example) is just below the hands and is the same angle as the feet line or in other words, pointed to the target.
6 Picture #8 shows how the club head moves to the inside from the players perspective.
7. Picture #9 - notice the trail elbow position - it remains in front of the trail hip at the top of the backswing.
This is why is can be confusing when different instructors describe a proper backswing. As you see the club is brought back "straight back", but from the player's perspective, the club head actually goes back on the inside.
It depends on the perspective you are looking at to determine if the club goes straight back or to the inside in the backswing.
For more detailed instruction on this topic and too see these pictures in "action", please view our 2nd Section of our "7 Principles of Golf Improvement" due out in a few weeks.
Good Luck.
As always, please feel free to call or email anytime with questions or comments.
TALK ABOUT CLUBS:
Had alot of questions about how lie angles affect shots and how you can check lie angles on your irons.
First, the lie angle is the angle the club makes impact with the ground. Ideally, the sole of the club should be flat on the ground and the center of the club (sole) should make impact with the ground.
If the club is too upright (heel of club makes impact with the ground first), the club face will roll over and the ball flight will have a tendency to have a hook/pull type flight.
If the club is too flat (toe of club makes impact with ground first), the club face will open and the ball flight will have a tendency to have a slice/push type flight.
It is very important to have a correct lie angle in your irons. Irons that are as little as 1 to 2* off can effect the ball flight up to 15 to 20 yards right or left of target with middle irons.
There are a couple different ways to determine if your lie angles fit you.
1. Obviously, take irons to a professional club builder/fitter. He will have you hit off a lie board with tape on the sole of the club. Tape should cut in the middle of the iron.
2. Take a piece of masking tape - put on the sole of club. Tape should go from toe of club to heel of club. Hit a ball (couple of balls) off a thin type board. It will not hurt the club (or you) and you will see a mark made in the tape. The mark should be in the middle of the sole of the club. If the mark in the tape is toward the toe, your club is too flat and needs to be adjusted more upright. If the mark in the tape is toward the heel, you club is too upright and needs to be adjusted more flat.
3. Old time check - Before the "high tech" way of hitting off a lie board, "old time" club builders would look at the irons when they were dirty. You will notice a line of dirt will form on the front of the club. This line is the impact/dirt line and when the lie angles are correct in the irons, this line should be parallel to the grooves in your irons. They will line up exactly. If this dirt line angles from heel to upper toe of your iron, your club is too flat. If this dirt line angles form upper heel to lower toe, you club is too upright.
I would recommend if you club's lie angles need to be adjusted to take them to a local club builder/fitter and have this done. After being adjusted, hit on a lie board again to make sure it was done right...
We'll discuss more about irons, wedges, and other equipment in upcoming issues.
Please feel free to call or email anytime - a good source is also the equipment section in our chatroom at http://www.forumco.com/fuzz2moe/default.asp Great place to get other golfer's (just like you) opinions on equipment.
