Graves Golf Academy's
"Little Moe" Signature School
December 2007 Etip Newsletter
Issue #72

Hello Everyone,

Hope everyone is having a great holiday season.

All of us here at the GGA are enjoying a little "down time" to get caught up with our office activities and it is also a great time for us to update things like our website, newsletter, etc...

As you see, we now have a new format we will be sending our newsletter. Scott will explain more (in this newsletter).

We are also excited to have more of our video "freeviews" up and running on google and youtube. You can even see a new short introduction from Todd on our homepage.

Scott will fill you in on more details about our other "freeviews" and other updates we are working on. He will also talk about our Callaway Driver give away and how you can sign up for this.
Three Day school winner

GGA would like to congratulate our latest winner of our quarterly FREE 3 day school drawing -

Kent Ledoux of Baytown, TX

Congratulations Kent, you can contact us to schedule your FREE 3 day school!

Changes to GGA E-tip, FREEviews on website

As you are no doubt noticing, the GGA has made some changes to our newsletter. In our ever growing effort to improve our products, we bring you the new newsletter format!

Here are a couple features we are sure you'll love.

On the left hand side of the newsletter, notice the "In this Issue" table of contents. You can now simply click the article you'd like to read, and you'll go right to it! Gone are the days of having to scroll throught the whole thing.
Quick Links - Also on the left hand menu, you'll see quick links to our website, chatroom, and GGA on YouTube.
With these new changes, I HIGHLY recommend that you add our email address for the Etips to your "Safe" sender llst and your address book. This will ensure that you receive the newsletter in a timely manner.

In addition to the changes in our E-tip Newsletters, we've also completely redesigned the home page of our website. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out HERE.

And lastly, in our continuing effort to spread the word about Moe Norman, we've added several FREEviews to our website. You can now see FREEviews on our website for the following products - Total Game Overview DVD, Troubles and Solutions DVD, 'Feeling of Greatness' Training Club, and Leverage Bag. In the coming weeks, we expect to have FREEviews on the website for all of our instructional products. Stay tuned!

Upcoming GGA Events

Know it seems pretty early to start thinking about next years golf season, but if you are considering starting your best golf year ever (2008) with a GGA school and/or camp, you might want to start checking your schedule now...

As of today, we only have a few spots available in our schools / camps in the early / spring 2008 schedule. In fact, of our first 10 schools / camps, 4 are already sold out. Great for us, not so good for those that wait to sign up.....

Points of Interest:

1. Our first 3 day school and 5 day camp of 2008 (first week of February) only have 2 spots open in each. Many want to get in as early as possible - to kick off their golf year with a "bang" - if you are one who is interested, call or email us soon.

2. Our first alumni camp March 9th - 13th is sold out, but our alumni 2 day school (Feb 23rd - 24th) has 2 spots open. All alumni interested in a "refresher" may want to consider contacting us soon.

3. Our Couple's School in March is sold out - we are looking at scheduling another. Another interested, please let us know if you are interested and possible dates you could attend.

Again - don't want to sound like a "broken record"... the GGA is extremely proud of our schools / camps and are extremely proud to have them selling out so fast. I always tell my assistants - it is a testament to our teaching. But this is a "Catch 22" for our students. Please don't wait until the last minute to sign up for instruction next year.. I don't think there will be any "last minute" spots available.

Again - thanks to all those who attended our instruction this year, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone next year!!!
Stocking Stuffer - The Feeling of Greatness, the Moe Norman Story

Stocking Stuffer - and a GREAT READ!!!

Guys / Gals - I (Tim) have read this book 4 times now and every time I read it - I learn new facts about Moe, his golf game and his life. I STRONGLY recommend this book for anyone who is interested in Moe.... don't let it get away as we have limited copies.

Here's the deal - we acquired 50 more copies of the book from Tim O'Connor (author) (they are almost gone..).
If you are interested in more information or purchasing a copy of the book, get your copy HERE.

Shipping - To guarantee delivery before Christmas, we suggest all orders be placed prior to December 15th (for GGA instructional material), before December 10th for club orders. All instructional material orders are shipped priority mail (unless requested other) and the 5 to 7 day guarantee ends the middle of December.

Practice Tip - Winter Practice

Was reviewing what I wanted to write about this month - and realized we have not talked about Winter Practice yet.

As it is definitely getting cooler outside and for many, the golf season has ended or is definitely slowing down, thought it would be a good time to review some winter practice again.

I'll be honest with you - for many (if not everyone), it is quite possibly the best time of year to fix/repair or change issues in your swing. Why? Because, this time of year we are not worried about playing tomorrow or in the near future, or how the changes will affect or next round, or that the changes may "feel funny"... This time of year we have time to work on changes and give them time to "stick" or become permanent.

Let's review our Winter Practice and talk a little more about some specific points.
Also threw in a couple pointers on each Picture you might want to try...

First - please go to: http://swinglikemoe.com/index.php?customernumber=94790422361287&pr=Online_Instruction&=SID
Scroll down to Leverage Bag / Winter Practice Tip 1
Click CHANGE ALBUM

Picture # 1 - You will see a picture of a golf club against a leverage bag.

Picture # 2 - Notice Todd's set up. In particular the lead arm above (higher than) the trail - the wider (than conventional) stance and the tilted triangle.
(Triangle is described as the angles between the arms and shoulders. Triangle formed between the arms and shoulders). The tilted triangle is the description of the lead shoulder being above the trail at set up.

Pointer - Set up over a golf ball or the leverage bag and have someone take a picture of you (face on). Brent (one of our GGA instructors) does this a lot by giving his cell phone to someone (has a camera option) and has them take a picture of his set up. He then can check his set up by looking at the picture on his cell phone.

Picture # 3 - Compare Picture #2 (left side) and Picture #3 (left side) - notice - Todd's head DID NOT move. It did not go back, forward, up, down, etc... It remained VERY still. Work on this in your takeaway. Too often we see the head move in this part of the backswing. Your head MUST and needs to stay very still in order to maintain proper spin tilt which leads to a proper take away.

Pointer - Shadow Test. On a sunny day, or you can do inside with the right lights - set up over a leverage bag / golf ball. Make sure your shadow is in front of you. In other words, you are looking at your shadow (sun / light will be at your back). Look at your shadow - focus on your head (shadow). Start your backswing - your head/shadow should not move. GREAT check.

Picture # 4 - Check your hinge. The angle between your lead arm and club shaft. Create as much as possible working on keeping your lead wrist (left wrist for right handers, etc..) as flat as possible. Remember - you hit the ball with a flat wrist - much easier and more consistent to keep flat wrist (as flat as possible) throughout the swing.

Pointer - Stop when your lead arm is parallel to the ground - check the angle (amount of hinge). If you want more - do VERY slow - hold the position, do this over and over - get the body used to the feel of more hinge.

Picture # 5 - Down the line view of hinge. Focus on trail elbow position. It is NOT against the side (not touching), but close. Make sure your elbow is in this position and not "flying" out (or bent outward, etc..).

Picture # 6 - Again focus on the trail arm - this picture is in the downswing. Notice how the elbow is in front of Todd and tucked close to his side. Also notice how the trail forearm is up (Moe called this "sunny side up") and the club shaft is pointed down the line.

Pointer - Go to this position VERY slow and work on pushing club as far forward as possible WITHOUT letting the shaft drop past parallel. This will help increase your leverage and angles and DRAMATICALLY increase distance (ball flight) if done right.

Picture # 7 - Notice - the hands are LEADING the club. In other words, the hands are already to the bag (and ahead of the leading edge) before the club makes contact with the bag. Also notice how Todd's head is still in the same position as where he started. Compare picture # 7 to picture # 2. Your head can drop (slightly) due to your trail shoulder dropping, but your head SHOULD NOT go forward.

Picture # 8 - Again - check your hands are leading. Notice the straight line from the lead shoulder to the club head - same as your set up.

Picture # 9 - Exaggerate the hands going forward (the leverage bag will stop the club head). Make sure your lead arm is HIGHER than your trail arm. This is practicing your IMPACT position. Critical to practice this often - make sure your lead arm is higher than your trail arm and your trail arm is BENT.

Pointer - Try to "push" the bag around with your club. Ben Hogan used to push a car tire around the range... use a leverage bag - easier on you and your clubs.... This will strengthen your swing and get you the feeling of a strong impact position.

Picture # 10 - At impact, make sure knees are flexed and feet are down. If your lead knee is not flexed, there is a STRONG probability you will come over (outside / in path) your golf shots. When the lead knee straightens, lead shoulder pulls out - thus outside / in path.

Pointer - Check to make sure your lead knee is flexed. Flex twice as much as you think... exaggerate the flex - get the feeling of a flexed knee at impact.

Picture # 11 - This is FACING BALL AT IMPACT. Review - feet are on the ground (square to ball), knees are flexed (square to the ball), hips are OPEN - up to 20 to 25* - the hips ARE NOT square at impact. The shoulders are also square at impact.

Pointer - DO NOT try and keep your hips square to the ball at impact. Keeping them square is NOT correct. This hips must open to allow the hands and arms to get back to impact.

Picture # 12 - Repeat the drills over and over again - holding the positions to get used to the NEW feeling.

Pointer - Can not stress this enough - DO THESE DRILLS VERY SLOW - try them with your eyes closed, get used to the new positions and feelings.
Getting used to these and creating more hinge and better angles will give you a much more consistent and STRONGER golf swing.

Good Luck -

We have had many new golfers sign up for our newsletter in the past few weeks - WELCOME.

Make sure and check out the GGA Path to Great Golf - How to reach your golf goals.... on our website HERE.

This is how so many of our GGA alumni and other GGA followers are reaching goals in their golf games they only dreamed of before!!

As always - please, please PRACTICE WITH A PURPOSE.

Good Luck, please let us know if we can do anything else for you.

GGA Funny

Winter Rules Definition: Local rules that permit golf balls to be lifted, cleaned and replaced in a more favorable "preferred lie" without penalty during periods when adverse weather conditions make proper maintenance of the fairways impractical.
Most golfers generally adhere to winter rules from the first week of November until Halloween.
