"Little Moe" Signature School
July 2008 Instructional Newsletter Update
Issue #79A

Hello Everyone,

We hope everyone is having a great summer so far. Starting to heat up down here, but to be honest, we really don't mind it...we'd much rather have the heat than the cold...we can still play golf in the heat.

We have been incredibly busy here at the Graves Golf Academy (GGA) the past few weeks. Between having our first webinar (live online instructional clinic), planning our second for the end of this month, continuing our junior clinics, and getting prepared for the Chicago school, we have been running like crazy, but a very GOOD crazy. Hopefully in the next few weeks we will get in front of all of you, whether in person at a school, or on a video feed through the computer, hopefully one way or another we can get you some swing help.

Spreading the word

Help us share the word about Moe Norman with the golf world!

If you find something in this Etip particularly helpful, share it with your friends. Just click button below.

Thank you for your help in spreading the word about Moe Norman's simple and effective swing!

The 4th Annual Moe Norman Memorial

When: September 27th & 28th, 2008
Where: Eagle Creek Golf Club - Orlando, FL - GGA's Orlando home
Who: YOU!!
Cost: $429 / golfer through August 15th, 2008. Registration will then become $459 / golfer

It's hard to believe it's been 4 years since we said goodbye to Moe. And we are proud and honored to host the Moe Norman Memorial Outing in his honor. Now only 2 months away, the 4th Annual Moe Norman Memorial will continue the tradition of gathering to honor the legend, and the man who has allowed us all to become better ball strikers.

Whether this is your first time, or if you've been every year, don't wait to reserve your space. This event has become a great reunion each year of Moe Norman fans. Many friendship's have been forged at the "Moe", and we expect this year's event will be no different.

Now to the golf itself. We get many people each year who say they don't want to play because they feel like they aren't "good enough". Friends, this simply isn't the case. This outing is PRIMARILY about meeting fellow Moe golfers, making lasting friendships, and experiencing Moe Norman's legacy. We (GGA) look at it the Moe Memorial is more of an outing/gathering rather than a competitive tournament. This event each year only expands Moe's legacy, and you should be part of it.

To register for the memorial, simply visit our Moe Memorial Page on our website. If you have further questions, please email Scott Renfrow at scottr@swinglikemoe.com.

We look forward to seeing you at the 'Moe'!

Second FREE Webinar - "Tiger should KNOW MOE"
Sign up NOW! Only 500 seats available

Last Thursday, July 10th, Moe's birthday, GGA held it's first ever LIVE online (computer) training seminar (we call it a webinar) from the Academy in OKC. We had over 250 people attend the webinar, which included live audio and video, live Q&A, and a special announcement of the upcoming KNOW MOE premium content website. While we had some initial technical difficulties, once the webinar started, it was AWESOME! And now it's available to watch on our website!

To watch the first webinar, simply click HERE.

We've had very positive response from the first webinar, and are working to get the whole hour plus session on our website so all can see. The response was so overwhelming, we are planning a 2nd webinar for the end of this month. (You can see some of the responses at: http://fuzz2moe.forumco.com/topic~TOPIC_ID~7872.asp )

During the July 10th webinar, the majority of the questions were focused around the proper grip and the Feeling of Greatness Training Club.

Questions included:

- Overlapping vs. 10 Finger Grip
- Pinching the trail hand pressure point for proper release
- Proper of positioning of lead and trail hands
- How proper positioning creates leverage and power in the swing
- How grip size affects power in the swing

The answers to several of these questions are answered with the Feeling of Greatness Training club and it's accompanying instructional video, which can be seen FREE HERE. Please take a few minutes to see how this tool has become a foundation of GGA's teaching of the grip and setup of the Moe Norman Single Plane swing.

Now for the NEXT WEBINAR SIGN UP:

Callaway Fusion Driver Giveaway / Contest

Thought it might be time to have another contest for a new driver. In fact, thought we'd make this one a little different and fun.

First - We absolutely love to see all the posts / questions / comments, etc.. on our forum at www.moenormanforum.com

Second - We know we have many who post on the forum, but 10 times that many that just come and visit every so often.

Third - We love to give away "stuff" and I bet you like a chance to win.

So - here is the contest:

We are going to give a NEW Callaway Fusion FT-5 Driver (fit to the winner's specs of course).

To be entered - this is what you have to do:

Between now and our next Etip - due to be out August 5th - you must post at least one post on our forum - www.moenormanforum.com .
It doesn't have to be anything fancy... it can be a question, comment, golf joke, glory story, whatever you want to post. In fact, you can just post "Hi" or "I am posting this to enter the contest..." - I don't care.... as long as you write something.

When you post/write something you will be entered in the drawing for the driver give away.

Fact 1. If you have posted in the past - doesn't count for this contest, you must post between now and the next etip.

Fact 2. You will only be entered once - if you post 100 posts - you will only be entered once. We'd love to have you post 1,000 posts, and we'll answer them all... but you will only be entered once...

Give us your best joke, tell us why you started to swing like Moe, tell us about your favorite golf course, tell us about your best shot you ever hit, tell us who you'd play golf with if you could play with anyone.... doesn't matter - just post something..

So there it is - go to our forum / chatroom at www.moenormanforum.com - post something... it's that simple - you will be entered to win a NEW CALLAWAY FUSION FT-5 Driver.

We'll even give a 2nd place prize of $150 worth of GGA product of your choice...

We'll draw the winners and announce in the next Etip.

HAVE FUN!!!

SEE YOU ON OUR FORUM.

P.S. If www.moenormanforum.com link doesn't work for you - go to our website at www.swinglikemoe.com and click on CHATROOM at the top of the home page.

GOOD LUCK!!!!
Chicago, Chicago, Chicago.....FREE Ball Striking Demo Plus more.

By the time most read this, we will either be in the air on the way to Chicago or already in our schools at Chicago.

If anyone can make it last minute to one of our schools, we had one spot open up in each of the 3 day schools. We now have one spot open July 25th - 27th and another in the 3 day school July 22nd - 24th. The schools are being held at Prairie Landing Golf Course - a wonderful facility that has taken great care of us the past few years.

We are also having a free ball striking demonstration by "Little Moe" Todd Graves on July 22nd at 3:30p and July 25th also at 3:30p. Please feel free to bring yourself and anyone interested. Watch Todd demonstrate and explain Moe's swing. IT IS FREE TO THE PUBLIC - DON'T WORRY ABOUT CALLING - JUST SHOW UP - we'll be at the back of the range on the teaching tee.

Plus - we have had some calls about fittings (of those not attending our schools...) - if you would like to be fit for clubs, give us a call or email - we'll try and work something out.
New GGA Grip Announcement

The Graves Golf Academy will soon be releasing our new grip - a grip that is USGA conformed, can be used on all clubs and has markings so you will be able to put your hands on your clubs exactly like Moe gripped his own clubs.

Todd (Graves) put a plan in motion about 4 years ago.

First part of the plan: Develop a grip training club so everyone (whether they are with us in person or 1,000 miles away can put their hands on the club correctly and feel "Moe's Feeling of Greatness" everything he/she grips the club. He produced the grip, and it has been BY FAR our "best selling and most popular" training product of the GGA - if you don't have one yet - just ask the 1,000s that have it.... ask them what it has done for their game. Imagine - every time you go to the range, pulling out the grip training club, hitting shots with "perfect" hands on the club. You can see more on our Training Grip and Club page of our website (short video about the grip/club).

Second part of the plan: Produce a video teaching everyone how to hold the grip training club and how to grip the club "just like Moe" so everyone can then work on other fundamentals (i.e. the stance, set up, take away, leverage positions, etc..) to swing like Moe rather then always "fighting" their grip. This was done and with every training grip club order - the training video/DVD is included.

Third part of the plan: Produce a grip that can be used on the students clubs, is USGA conformed and is a "good looking and good feeling" grip that has the same markings as the GGA grip training club (without the molding). So, now EVERY student can train with the GGA Training Grip Club and then match the same markings on their clubs (with the GGA grips) and grip their own clubs just like Moe - perfect EVERY time.

The third part of the plan was completed early this year, the grips are on their way and are expected to arrive toward the end of July / first of August. We have already received the first 100 - they are AWESOME. They are already on our clubs, many of our demo clubs, and hopefully all our students clubs soon.

Fourth part of plan: A video on our website (free) - how to install the grips and tips to using the grips. (Will be out before grips are released..)

And now the first public images of the GGA Transitional Grip. By the way, in ONE grip, both right AND left handed golfers (yes lefty friends, you read that correctly) can now feel Moe Norman's grip. Here's the pics:

Right handed side Left Handed side

As you see in the picture, the markings are similar to those on the GGA Training Grip Club - shows where the lead hand "pad" should be, where the thumb of the lead hand should sit, where the trail hand pinching should occur, the positioning of the trail hand, etc.. This grip works for overlapping, 10 finger and interlocking grips as our training grip club was set up to accommodate.

Finally - hopefully by now, everyone reading our etips knows the importance of a good hold/grip on the club. Without a good hold/grip on the club, you will be building continual compensations to make up for your grip - and I guarantee this will create poor/inconsistent golf.

We are hoping by creating these new grip "tools" they will aid everyone and help short cut the process of developing their swing to Swing Like Moe!!!!

HERE IS THE DEAL:

We have been told to expect the first 2,500 grips in the next couple of weeks (literally on a slow boat from China...). That may sound like a lot, but to be honest, as many will be ordering 10 to 20 at a time, it ISN'T!!! We have already placed an order for an additional 2,500, and have been told not to expect those for another couple of months.

COST OF THE GRIPS:

$8.95 per grip

$99 for 14 grips (grip your entire set (except putter). Also gives you 1 extra grip to experiment with grip sizing for your personalized grip size.)

SPECIAL:

If you have ordered a club(s) (any club through the GGA from Adams, Titleist, Callaway, Cobra or any other major manufacturer) in 2008, you can receive a grip for that club at cost of shipping & handling only.

In other words, if you ordered for example an Adams driver last month through the GGA, you can receive a GGA grip for cost of shipping.

AND / OR - if you would like an entire set (13), you can receive for 1/2 price - $44.95

So. here's the deal - if you have supported us with purchasing clubs through the GGA in 2008 - we thought we'd return the favor.

How to order

NOW - IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE 1 or 100 of the first batch of our new grips - YOU NEED TO GET YOUR ORDER IN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

If you have NOT purchased clubs through GGA in 2008 and are ready to purchase grips - CLICK HERE to place your order. Orders will be shipped near the first of August once the grips have arrived.

If you HAVE purchased clubs through GGA and want to take advantage of the special offer available to you, please email Tim Graves or Scott Renfrow.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions, please feel free to email anytime.

"You're my Hero"

by Tim Graves, PGA

Yesterday, I was giving lessons at our academy here in OKC and in the middle of my third lesson, thought to myself, what a good lesson for everyone to hear...

Let me tell you what was going on.

During my first lesson (in our academy's hitting bay), Todd stepped into the bay to work on our V1 system. It crashed a few days ago, and he was updating the computer and our software.

As he sat down, about 1/2 hour into my lesson with my first student, he heard my student turn toward me (after he hit a driver that couldn't have been better) and tell me "You're a miracle worker, I have never hit a drive that good in my life".

Todd continued to work on the new computer...

In stepped my second student/lesson. About 15 minutes into the lesson, this student (after hitting a 6 iron - close to perfect) turned toward me and said, "Where have you been my whole life?"... The lesson continued and Todd left for a while.

Finally, during my middle of my third lesson, Todd came back into the hitting bay to finish his project.... a few minutes later, my third student turned toward me and said "You're my hero... there's no way I thought I'd ever hit it that good."

Todd started to laugh... his back was toward the student - he was looking at the computer monitor and was laughing. When I heard him laugh, I couldn't help it, I began to laugh with him..... I quickly composed myself to the best of my ability and finished my lesson...

When my third lesson ended, as usual, I took my student into my office to schedule our next lesson. When we got into my office, he asked me the question, "Why were you and your brother laughing during the lesson?" To be honest, I felt awkward as I quickly realized he probably thought we were laughing at him....

I sat down with my student and had a nice talk... it had nothing to do with him, it was what he said. "You're my hero..."

We are not hero's (those guys/gals wear a patch on their arm for us.....), we are not miracle workers (there is only one of those and we aren't even close), where have you been my whole life (we've been here.... doing what we do...). This is what Todd and I were laughing about. It continues to amaze us how easy it is to fix most swings and how so many golfers take paths that make it so difficult. As Moe said, "You won't believe your eyes when you get it, and more importantly, you won't believe how hard you have made it".

So what's the trick? Why can we take a student who many times has seen some/many other instructors, has worked on their golf game a lot and in just a short time, get them hitting the ball better than they ever have???

It's no trick - it is BASIC FUNDAMENTALS!!!

Here is the our "Top Secret", "Rocket Science", "Key" to creating a GREAT golf swing....

Study and learn the fundamentals. It doesn't matter if you have been working with us for 10 years, or 1 day, whether you are a scratch golfer, 40 handicap golfer or new to the game, it is ALWAYS about the fundamentals.

This is what we do, with every student, whether in an hour lesson, in a 3 day school or week long camp:

1. We analyze the student's swing to determine his/her weakness and strengths and work on his weaknesses to improve his swing. 99% of the time, his/her weaknesses are faults in fundamentals. The key fundamentals: 1. Grip, 2. Proper Set Up, 3. Proper Take Away (Single Plane Swing) and finally 4. Facing Ball at Impact.

2. We start with the grip, then go to the set up, then the backswing (position #1 to #2, #2 to #3, to impact then watch release).

3. We do not fix/work on one area before the next. For example, if a student's fundamental grip isn't proper WE DO NOT work on his/her set up. Grip first.

4. We EXPLAIN why each fundamental is so important so he/she will understand why the change MUST be made. If the change isn't easy, they won't give up if they understand why.

5. We start SMALL and work up. We promote easy/soft swings getting to learn/feel the new positions. If we "harp" enough in the lessons, most will listen (at least during the lesson). Many times in a lesson, I will have my student swing the club 5 to 10 times in between each shot, have him do the PVC over and over and over without hitting balls, have him/her hit the leverage bag, have him/her use our grip training club, etc.. etc.. it is not about hitting balls, it is about LEARNING POSITIONS!!

It's always interesting, at the start of each of our camps, we set the students down and ask them the following question:

"What is your goal for this week (during the camp), for the next month and for the next 6 months (or this golf season)?"

Most respond by saying, "I want to get more consistent with my golf swing, I want to lower my handicap in 1/2 and/or I want to know what I am doing wrong."

Then I reply with our goal for them.... this is the GGA goal for ALL our students:

We want you (our student) to learn to hit the ball good enough that in your mind you will tell yourself you don't have to spend all your practice time on the driving range, you can spend a majority of your time on the short game - or as we call it, the SCORING part of the game. In other words, with your practice time (how much or little you practice) - you won't think you need to work on your long game all the time... you will have enough confidence in your long game to give time to your short game..... what 99.9% of golfer's DON'T DO!!!! That is why 90% of golfers can't break 100 - they don't give the scoring part of the game enough time.

So, with all this said, what do you need to do. Here is your "map" to better / much better golf:

1. Determine your weakness(es)... and if you are saying to yourself right now, "it's everything" - you are WRONG. I have NEVER seen a student that didn't have some, if not many, good points in their swing. Determine what you need to work on. Get in front of a mirror, check the different fundamentals to compare against what you are doing.....

- Get a reference... of course, I recommend our Total Game Overview Instructional Material if you are trying to Swing Like Moe.... this is our top selling instructional DVD - BY FAR!!! If you already have it and haven't looked at for a while - get it out again - check your grip against our recommended, check your set up, check your backswing, check your downswing, etc.. etc.. it's all there, check it. (For all those who are new to the GGA - whether with us for a day or year++ and don't have our core instructional video yet - GET IT!!! GET IT NOW!!!! I'll be honest, yes, I want to sell more of our instructional videos, but more importantly, I want you to be our student FOR LIFE and to improve your game beyond where you have ever imagined... THIS IS HOW YOU START!!! If you doubt me, talk to all our students/followers on our OPEN chatroom at www.moenormanforum.com - they will be more than happy to tell you. You can see our core instruction at: http://swinglikemoe.com/index.php?&pr=TGOV_Videos

2. Work on your weakness(es) - if you don't know how - give us an email or call. We'll help - that's what we are here for. We'll help you with drills, etc..

3. Give yourself time... don't expect overnight success, but don't expect it will take forever either... it will work if you give it time.

4. If you need, send us a video of your swing - we'll determine what you need to work on in just a few minutes, give you recommendations how to work on those areas and get back to you asap. You can see more on our Internet Golf Academy page of the website.

So, if you can't make it in front of us personally, we have tried our best to work out situations you can teach yourself. Always, always, always go back to the fundamentals. I can guarantee, 99.9% of the time, there is a "fundamental" problem with your swing - that once you figure out, you will dramatically improve.

Again, we aren't miracle workers, we aren't heros, what we are are teachers that have a specific model we work off and with all our students we work them toward that model... Moe's Single Axis Swing.

Give you a quick last story:

As hopefully most of you read in the last etip - I was in the middle of our PGA South Central Section Match Play Championship. I ended up loosing in the quarter finals 1 up. But a good lesson to learn was the following - in my final match I started to hit the ball a little left, not necessarily a "hook", but more of a pull left off the tee and the ball "leaked " a little more left besides the hook. The issue was the ball was ending up in the first cut of rough (at best) and was hard to control or create any spin on the fast/hard greens.

When I got back home to our academy, I was hitting balls the next day working on my "weak draw/hook" that had crept in my swing overnight. Was getting a little frustrated as I figured was a "plane" issue as I was hitting a little low left and figured I was delofting the club a little from top of my swing. So, like any good student, I got mad at myself, got a little frustrated, "smacked my driver into the ground a few times..." and then finally decided to "take more of a professional approach". I went into Todd's office and told him to get his "bootie" on the tee and see what I was doing....

It took 2 swings, Todd looked at me and said, your trail hand has slid under the club a little - AGAIN... (yup, this is my typical fault, that and my ball position falling a little back in my stance...) So, I grabbed the training grip club from my bag, hit a few balls with it... saw them all fly straight or a little right, and quickly realized what fundamental I had broken down... my trail hand grip had gotten a little too strong... again.

Folks - we are not robots... we are just like you, we have just done it a little longer and were lucky enough to learn from the "master" single plane golfer. We fall into bad habits as everyone does... but that isn't the issue - it is how fast and efficient you can correct/figure out those faults... so we can get back to good scoring and having A LOT of fun with this game....

P.S. - Played 36 holes of golf the next day with "my good grip" - went from hitting it relatively poorly in the tournament to shooting 15 under with my buddies for 36 holes in 2 days... GET BACK TO THE FUNDAMENTALS!!!!!

Remember - Always Practice with a Purpose.

Good Luck!!

Hi,This is my first attempt at this so I could be going about it all wrong but I wanted you to know that after your webinar I went to the range and had a great day. My wrist is healed and I was truly motivated and confident and I plan to play next week.It was just what I needed to get going after several months off. Thanks,H

Tim,

Before you head home and to Chi-town, your "click here" for the webinar replay doesn't work from your e-tip.
