Posted - 04/07/2008 : 08:20:51 I have watched as much video of Moe and studied as many still photos of him that I can find. In almost all it appears that he grips down on every shot with the butt end of the club sticking out above the heel of his left hand about 2". Is this something I should consider doing or was this peculiar to Moe? Does it in effect provide counterweighting for the heavier heads that Moe supposedly created with lead tape?
I am interested in trying this as I am having trouble keeping a midsize grip firmly in the fingers of my left hand as shown in the on-line instruction that you recommend. Perhaps gripping a couple of inches down on all full swing shots would help. If I do this, and you have previously recommended a 5-iron length of 38.75" (steel shaft) for me, would I then increase to 40.75? Interested in your feedback and advice. Thanks-- |

Posted - 04/07/2008 : 09:20:18 As I recall hearing the tale, Moe liked his club heads very heavy. He was also very unusually strong. Even so, he gripped down to help "lighten" the effective swing weight of the club. All of this is not recommended if you have the ability to be properly fitted.
Not sure why you have trouble keeping your left hand on he club. Check your hand size and make sure you have the right sized grips with the proper wraps. A search of this forum will give you lots of information about sizes and wraps. If you still have issues, check the grip again against the photos and, if you have one, use the training club.
