JULY E-TIP NEWSLETTER UPDATE
ISSUE #31A

Hello Again,

Thought I'd drop a quick update before we are off on our next teaching "adventure" in Indiana and Ohio.  We leave early next week and hope to see everyone in the area.

****  This month's Etip Pictures might be the BEST so far.  Have already had alot of great comments about them and seem to be clearing alot of confusion about those single axis definitions.  Please see our Practice Section below for more information.

****  Just got and email about a BIG CALLAWAY special.  They are offering between $50 and $100 off much of their 2004 series/equipment.  If interested in any Callaway equipment, a driver (fusion, GBB, etc..), fairway woods, irons, etc.. call us and we'll tell you more details...

* Want to thank all those who attended our Oklahoma City school at our teaching academy last weekend.  Had a great time and a good turnout.

* Our Indiana and Ohio schools are next week.  We will be in Kendalville, Indiana on July 28 - 29, and Bolivar, Ohio (just outside Canton) on July 30 - 31.  If interested in attending one of the schools (one day, two day, etc..) or the ball striking demos, give us a call or email anytime.  We have a couple spots still available and this will be the only time we will be in this area the remainder of the year.

* Volume #3 of the 7 Principles of Golf Improvement is getting closer and closer to completion.  Already over 60 minutes of chipping and bunker play...  checks, drills, fundamentals, and much more.  If you don't understand chipping and bunker play after this instruction, "not sure what we can do..."...

*  We've had quite a few new members on our Moe Norman Swing Forum (Chatroom) at http://www.forumco.com/fuzz2moe/default.asp in the past few weeks.  We currently have 54 pages of members, which is growing everyday.  Remember, it costs nothing as it has been set up for all single axis golfers as a site to visit, chat, get answers to swing questions and a place to just "have fun".

SCOTT'S E-CORNER

Hello everyone, I wanted to take a few lines here to tell you about the Build Your Game Camp in OKC a few weeks ago.

Where to start. Well, first off, the weather was HOT. I think I lost 10lbs., but gained it back each night at dinner! Even though it was hot, the cure was just as simple as going in the teaching center and sitting in the conference room with a water AND a gatorade for about 15-20 mins. Good as new, no problem.

We videoed the swings nearly EVERY day, and it was inside the bay hitting outside, with fans blowing on you, so the heat wasn't an issue.
Bottom line, the heat wasn't really a factor.

Regarding the camp, well, the best I can put it is that I have never experienced such a PERFECT week of golf in my life. We played 9 holes 4 days, with Todd and/or Tim with us each time. It was awesome having a "playing lesson" each day, hitting different shots, practicing the things we'd been working on in the game.

The work on the short game was the best I've ever had, and I've been through 4 schools. I feel like my short game will be 'scratch' VERY soon. Tim's instruction was solid, easy, and VERY effective in practice. If you've been through a school before, you know Tim teaches the "clock" game for putting. I went around the 'clock' from 3 1/2 feet missing only 6 putts the whole time. The multi-club approach to chipping makes PERFECT sense now, and I'll never chip another way. Sand doesn't scare me at all, matter of fact, I look forward to practicing it so I can watch that ball stick and spin on the green! And as far as the flop shot, well, I love it now. Probably played it too many times last week while on the course, but its FUN hitting the ball high and watching it land soft.

In the long game area, well, Todd made the full swing "simple" for me again. Like many, I've been over thinking it a LOT. Todd finally helped me see the full swing in the 'right' light, simple, uncomplicated, and VERY effective. The video work we did was simply PHENOMENAL. We compared my swing to the tape that I sent to Todd nearly 1 year ago, and WOW, what a difference. I am actually starting to look JUST like Moe! You talk about exciting! To see yourself on video next to Moe, and the swings are identical! Todd even commented, "You've got more leverage than Moe". It was like finding out you've won the lottery!

All in all, I can say this for the Build Your Game Camp. If you want to realize your potential, KNOW what you can accomplish, and KNOW exactly HOW to accomplish it, well, you'll get that and more in a Camp. It's simply the finest instructional program you can invest in. Simple as that.

Do yourself a favor, invest in YOU! The Build Your Game Camp is investing in YOU; your game, your approach to the game, your success. NOT someone else's profit margin, YOURS! It will be the best money you've invested in YOUR game in a long, long time.

If you have questions, let me know. I'd be happy to share. Thanks for reading!

PRACTICE TIP:

We have been getting alot of questions about some swing terminology lately.  Questions include defining what a wide stance is (or how wide should the stance be), body center, leverage angles, spine tilt and others.  Todd decided to take some pictures and describe these terms in this month's etip.  After viewing these pictures, I can GUARANTEE it answer many of your questions/misunderstandings about some of the common single axis positions.

To see the pictures and captions, please go to our website at www.swinglikemoe.com and click on the ETIPS bar on the left of the home page.  Then scroll to Definitions Etip / July 04.  Once on that topic - click on CHANGE ALBUM to the right of the heading.  It will take you to this months etip pictures.

Definitions:

1.  WIDE STANCE: This is the stance with we recommend for the golf swing. A 6 iron is just slightly less than shoulder width. A driver is just slightly wider than shoulder width. Exact measurements would have the driver stance exactly 22 inches from inside the left and right heel.

2.  BODY CENTER: This shows with a proper grip and address position, the “V” between the hands is body centered. The center of my body is at my sternum. Notice how this is AFTER the spine is tilted.

3.  LEVERAGE ANGLE: This is what we call the leverage angle. The hands are hinged and cocked to a position where the lead arm is straight and there is an angle between the arm and club shaft.

4.   SPINE TILT: This is the tilt at address and at the top of the backswing after you have formed the leverage angle. This “tilt” is a product of proper lower body motion and hand and arm motion.

5.  HEAD BEHIND BALL: The head starts behind the ball with all clubs. Proper address, spine tilt and ball position creates the proper head position. Notice how the hands are in front of the club head (relative to the target) and the head position is directly over the club position.

6.  SINGLE AXIS: The single axis is simply formed from a proper grip and arm position as well as spine tilt. Notice the club shaft aligning with the trail arm and the lead arm is visible above the trail arm.

7.  SINGLE PLANE: This plane is created at address position. The single plane is a reference to the plane of the shaft and its movement in the backswing, initial movement in the downswing and into impact. This plane is established from the correct address position.

8.   SINGLE PLANE (CONTINUED): The plane can be seen as it is referenced by the angle of the club in the backswing. This plane is a great indication that you have moved your arms and hand correctly into the backswing.

Again - to see the pictures of these definitions please go to our website at www.swinglikemoe.com and click on the ETIPS bar on the left of the home page.  Then scroll to Definitions Etip / July 04.  Once on that topic - click on CHANGE ALBUM to the right of the heading.  It will take you to this months etip pictures.

Hope these definitions cleared up a few answers and confusion "in the field".

Please feel free to call or email us anytime.
Already a good line of "chat" about these definitions on our chatroom at http://www.forumco.com/fuzz2moe/default.asp  - If interested, please join us.

Good Luck.

GGA "TIDBITS"

*  We want to congratulate Todd Hamilton on his British Open Championship.  Todd (also know to us as "Hammy") is a very good friend our our Todd (Graves) as they played on the same golf team in college (University of Oklahoma),  Todd (Graves) actually was the assistant golf coach of the team Hammy was on when they won the National Championship.  In fact, Todd and Todd were so close, Hammy persuaded Todd to go to the Asian tour with him when they both got out of college.... and the rest is now history.....  Again - CONGRATS HAMMY!!!! and we hope you don't forget about the "little people" here at home.....
Quick story...   3 years ago, I (Tim) played the last round of the Oklahoma Open with Hammy.  We talked for 4 hours about him quitting golf, or at least staying home and limiting his traveling alot.  He had (has) 2 children and the stress of being away from them was taking it's toll.....  Thing's definitely change quick....!

* Wanted to pass on an email we received last week - it's great!!
From Steve S. (Denison, TX) (GGA Alumni):

"YO GRAVES BROS.    I know you are interested in success rounds so I'll relate my last one. Now remember, I have been playing golf on and off for nearly 60 years. I had an eagle and 5 birdies from the middle tees. Opponents won't give me the senior ones. Anyway I have never had that many under par holes in my life in one round. I have been studying single plane swing since I saw Moe's first tape 7-8 years ago.
Still got room for improvement but my goal is to break 70, which I have never done. But it is within reach now.
Please refer to me now as "Middle Moe."
Putting for birdies,
SS"

* "Little Moe" Invitational is scheduled for Feb 26 and 27th next year at Eagle Creek Golf Course in Orlando, FL.  Todd and Scott are actually in Florida this week working out details - we'll release soon.

*  We are currently working on new agendas for alumni based schools (1, 2 and 3 day) at our teaching locations in Oklahoma City and Orlando.  Watch for more details.

*  We are continuing the video mail in instruction program.  It has shown very helpful to those who want a lesson or two and can't see us in person.  Just requires taking a video of your swing, mailing to us for review and we'll get back to you with a video analysis of your swing.  For more details, please call or email us anytime.
