Hi T n T,
I've noticed on the clips of Moe Norman and even on the instructional video of you, that the driver clubhead, at setup, is about 5 to 6 inches behind the ball (for you), and it looks like about a foot for Moe. My question is, do you square the clubhead at the ball, which is near the lead foot, or do you square it to the place where it's resting? It would seem that if you squared it at it's resting place, 6 to 12 inches behind the ball, then by the time it reaches the ball the face will be slightly to moderately closed, producing a dreaded hook. Would I be correct in this assumption? Thanks.

Yes. Square at address when club is behind ball and then square at impact. Don't overcomplicate it. Model Moe.

Let me see if I have this right...

Square when set up because when you actually get to impact, you will also be square because your body moves a bit as you flex into the forward knee.

Is that right?

Ok...Ok....let me get this straight! And I hope I'm not sounding redundant. At setup...the club head (driver) looks like it's in the middle of our stance, and the ball is forward at the lead foot...ok?
Now.....am I correct to understand that the club face is squared to the target at the ball and not at the (middle) setup? If so....then Doug would be right in assuming that it would be slightly (a tad) open when moved back to the setup position. So...is it squared at the ball (1" behind ball)...or at setup (6-12" behind ball)? Whew!!!!!

The club is square when it is behind the ball.

if you square the club face to the ball
then when you take the proper ball position
would the club face be open some

is this what i see in the online instruction
posture and stability /ideal setup

It is square when it is behind the ball. Address and impact are not the same regarding club position because there is a lateral element in the golf swing at impact. This lateral element allows for the club to be square at address behind the ball and at impact.
