Posted - 05/31/2007 : 20:22:20 That's the only draw back.. Other people want and sometimes expect me to be giving them yardages. With Friends that's ok. But gets wearisome with I just met you guys.. As far as accuracy goes. I have no idea what this with in 10 yds or so is about. I have never gotten a bad read.. I know my iron distances very well, and that's one thing I love about my caddie. I know it's right. Choose the coresponding club and go. It's a ton of information at a glance.. I plan to up grade to the GS3 soon.. T. |

Posted - 05/30/2007 : 15:48:04 I'm betting the experience is the same with laser or gps -- my buddies tease me for buying a golf gadget like the SkyCaddie and yet they will not pull a club until I spot them a yardage to the front, middle, and back of the green. |

Posted - 05/30/2007 : 12:54:19 I been following this discussion with great interest and I guess I’ll give my two cents worth. I started using the Skycaddie GS4 unit as of the 1st of the year and would be lost without it. I did consider a laser finder, my friend has one. For those Skycaddie users that lost satellite signal, I am emphatic. On my second use, I also lost the satellite signal, and promptly sent off a curt letter to the headquarters. Shame on me, the problem was in my court; I didn’t take time to read the instructions completely and realize there was a reset option. To date, after reading the instructions, my GS4 has preformed flawlessly while playing multiple courses a couple time a week. 98% of the time the accuracy is great, with in a yard of professionally measured yardage markers, however I must admit that on one occasion I have experience error of a couple of yards.
What I like the most about the Skycaddie is its convenience. I clip it on my bag strap which makes it accessible when either walking or riding. For the occasional hole when carts are restricted to the path, it’s a simple matter of taking a reading from the cart location; select a couple possible clubs, unclip it, place it in my pocket, walk to the shot, review yardage again and fire with confidence. I particularly like the fact that when hanging the GS4 from the bag strap, with no more than a casual glance, I can get accurate “to green” and hazard(s) yardage, no fumbling, no waiting. My range finder buddy seems to be always groping with storage and retrieval of his unit, which works OK, but is somewhat bulky. We like to give him his fair share of teasing during a round, about checking out the female golfers or searching for birdies instead of looking for the pin. Naturally not all that I golf with has the luxury of owing a GPS unit. Many say they would never buy one and that they are not worth the money, but for some unknown reason, these same people are always getting (and trusting) their yardage reading taken from my GS4 rather than finding the yardage monuments and stepping off yardage.
For me, any tool that helps one enjoy the game more is worth it. Whether it be a range finder or a GPS unit, both are good, it’s really about personal preference.

Posted - 05/29/2007 : 10:26:37 PapaDave, Your suggestion is what tech service at SkyGolf told me. Once I reset the GPS it is now reading the satellite signal. I played Sunday and I was not getting the signal so I called them this morning and now it is reading the signal so I am back in business. |

Posted - 05/26/2007 : 10:30:04 I can finally chime in a little. I went to a course that had Skycaddies for rent. ($5.00) I jumped all over it. It was OUTSTANDING!!!!! I LOVE the way you can get front, middle and back. You could move the three choices all over the green. I LOVE the instant yardage. It made my decissions easy, without having to pace off the distance. I LOVE knowing how far I hit a ball. I LOVE knowing exactly how far trouble in the fairway was. Now I have to convince my wife how "important" it is for my birthday!! I was leaning toward the laser, but using the caddie was awesome. It gets my vote. Matt |

Not entirely so ... remember the ground fog at plantation palms?? Brought the laser to its knees.
And the GPS goes down under heavy tree canopies. Had problems trying to record one green that is surrounded by trees. The cart mounted GPS at Osprey ridge also lost signal when we were on a cartpath through dense forest, so it's not a skycaddie flaw, more a GPS limitation |

Posted - 05/25/2007 : 08:13:56 Pars4Bob,
Hmmm? GPS should not be sensitive to overcast skies. Try the above procedure of connecting to a PC, updating the software AND using the menu to reset GPS. That has helped several of my friends (and me, of course).
Another gliche seems to be downloading new courses. It took me two tries, and then yesterday, a friend reported that he was unable to download the courses he was going to FL to play.
Not a perfect world.
Good luck, Dave |

Posted - 05/24/2007 : 21:09:51 I just got a SG4 and played two rounds with it. First round worked fine and saved time over my Laser Rangefinder. Second round this past Sunday was a total bust. Sky was overcast most of the time and I could get no signal so it was totally useless. I hope this is the exception and not the rule or SkyGolf will be getting it back shortly. I have a GPS system in my Jeep that works fine on overcast days so I don't have a problem with the technology. I will play again this Sunday on another course and if I have the same problem I'll be sending it back. |

Posted - 05/08/2007 : 21:44:54 My skycaddie is working agian after connecting and updating.
TIP: Connecting the SG4, the cord must go down not up. If up, your PC may not recognise the devise. |

Posted - 05/01/2007 : 20:09:49 Vinnie, Did you forget.Todd taught us how to hit fairway bunker shots at our BYGC.And with my laser I now know exactly how far to the pin. However,I do want you to know how much I appreciated the close estimates you gave me when we played. It was nice to know within two clubs which to hit.LOL See you at the Moe. Posted - 05/01/2007 : 19:24:04 Good point Hack. I Love my SkyCaddie but I will not buy another one with a rechargeable battery. My next one will be the SG3. Oh, and by the way Chuck, I played with a guy on the weekend with a Laser and I just about let him drive his ball into a bunker over the hill. But he suffers enough with his inferior product so I told him about the bunker after all. Another laser guy saved by the Caddie:). Vinnie |

Posted - 05/01/2007 : 08:17:34 To those who are set on getting the skycaddie, I would recommend looking into the SG3
Reason being, the SG3 uses plain old AA batteries. You can buy four rechargable AA's and substitute them when you need to. The rechargable battery in the SG2 seems to be causing problems with battery life ... and the rechargable in the SG4 is an unknown right now. |
