I read in golf magazine that you hit a hybrid like you would an 8 iron. Ball pretty much in the center. Does that sound right. I use a TaylorMade rescue 3 - 19 degree.

So that's why I yank those Cobra Hybrids left, left, and left. Ball Position, why didn't I think of that. I was playing them like a fairway metal, trying to keep my hands in front of the head of the club. I'm surprised I haven't fallen over face first. Is this forum great or what?

My problem with playing hybrids further back in the stance is it delofts the club face which would lead to a lower trajectory. Perhaps this is offset by having the head hitting down more on the ball. I will experiment with ball position to determine the best way to hit this club. The Cobra hybrids have equal head weighting which is why Tim recommends them over the Hogans and TaylorMade ones that are toe heavy promoting a draw. I like the lighter weight than my NG BeCu 23* 7W and the shorter shaft which is easier to control. But I will have to see if the hook I am getting is caused by playing the ball too far forward.

For what it's worth:

If there's ANY club you need to keep your hands ahead of, it's a hybrid.

That's the one thing the cleveland guy emphasized to me when I hit the HALO at a demo day they had up here, be sure to keep your hands ahead of it.

Tim ... does the cleveland rep's observation fit in here someplace ... it would seem that getting the head even with the hands would shut the face down bigtime ... but if I'm being stupid just smack me

I carry 3 or 4 hybrids in my bag during a round -- used to be TaylorMade Rescue Mids, now the Rescue Duals.
I no longer carry woods or 3 iron.
I play them all further back in my stance than the corresponding long iron. If I played them that far forward, I'd get pulls/hooks as others have mentioned in this thread. Definitely center of stance or farther back. This is particularly important with the Rescue Mids, which are designed with a draw bias. Experiment and use whatever works best for you, but it will probably be farther back in your stance.

I have the same problem as Hick only with my #3 Cobra Hybrid so I'll take the same advice you give him. The other two hybrid clubs I have tried a Hogan #3 and a TaylorMade Rescue produced the same result which is why I still am using fairway woods.

Tim: when I play my Cobra 4 hybrid forward of center I hook it terribly. The only semblance of a straight shot is when I play the ball centered or 1 ball width towards my trail foot...What gives? ron

We recommend to hit the hyrbid in basically the same ball position as the corresponding iron. For example - 3 hybrid - 3 iron, 4 hybrid - 4 iron ... but you do want to hit the hybrids more like and iron than a fairway wood - downward type blow creating a minimal divot.
