This is great news JWW. Kelly is not only a NG but also a long drive champion from what I recall. It shoudl be interesting to see.

I took a one day NG clinic from him once. It would be to his advantage if the driving competition were held early; I would think he would be favored to get the mulligan there. Usually driving is not the first competition though so it's anyone's opportunity.

Kelly uses an ultra strong grip, as I recall, with both thumbs along the trail edge of the grip. At least that's what he taught at the clinic. I never quite got comfortable with it that strong, but obviously it works for him.

It was pretty cool when he was doing moe-isms on the show tonight. He was in pretty good voice, also, from when Tim did Moe imitations.

Interesting that he wasn't picked on one of the teams that were self selected and was on the leftover team.

Well One episode down and both Canadians survived the elimination challenge. Kelly, from British Columbia, and Annie from New Brunswick both had close calls in episode 1 but the True North strong and free came through with flying colors!

Is it just me or does Kelly's follow through look eerily like Tommy Two Gloves from season four? Just a quick observation but look for it next week.

It seemed to me that Kelly is not completely true to the model. That shot they showed of him with the driver, his lead wrist was bent at address like most conventional golfers do

Personally, I don't mind if he looks exactly like the model. I think publicity about Moe Norma or single axis is good for GGA and getting interest in our swing method. Hopefully he will do well.

Agreed, Mojo. But it was too bad he hooked his drive into the left rough on that 276 yd hole when others were laying up to 49 yds.

The current book out ("The Plane Truth About Golf") hasn't been too bad for single axis golf either.

JWW - I think he felt the pressure to go for it since he was a long drive champion. I also think he should have played a shorter shot, but I did read on his bio that his favorite club is his driver. I hope he is there for at least several more shows. WE shall see.

BillK7,

I just scanned it. I think it's a good way to identify whether you are single plane or conventional, but then you need to go to another source for fine tuning that's readable and clearer.

I saw an article in a recent golf magazine about the single vs conventional swing plane differences (don't remember which one) that was easily understandable and the pictures helped alot. Confirmed that I'm more naturally (no pun) single plane.

Mojo,

I agree he was probably compelled to rip it, but he sort of set himself up by promoting the long drive prowess. 276 yds wasn't so long a drive for him but it looked like it was all carry over that ravine with no room to stop the ball with driver. Layup with a 5 wood to 230 yards would have been smart.

Interesting comment Kelly had about having the flop shot before Phil when they were at the wall !?!?!?!?! Threw down the gauntlet to himself to perform.

At least Kelly is paired with best looking women on the show...Brianna. Though, after they won the $1000 gift certificates to Dick's; Bri was a bit reluctant to be hugged so many times by Kelly. He better watch out, or his wife will be showing up on next show and pulling him off her by the ear!

Kelly is more than a little odd. But he has a short game. I loved his comment last night about a master carpenter not practicing swinging his hammer before he goes to work (there is no range at my home course). Odd. Talks too much. But has hit the shots so far.
